An-Najah National University organized a psychological support and release activity for children in the town of Tell, in response to the growing need to provide safe spaces for children that help them express their feelings and relieve their psychological stress. The hall affiliated with the Tell Charitable Association hosted the recreational activity, in which 150 boys and girls participated, engaging in interactive and recreational activities designed to suit children's psychological and emotional needs.
The events included a movement games corner, a balloons corner, a parachute corner, a face-painting corner, and a drawing-on-paper-rolls corner, in addition to group segments of singing, dancing, and the traditional Palestinian anthem.
The activity was organized in cooperation between the Community Service Center, An-Najah Institute for Childhood, and the Palestinian Center for Childhood Policies, in partnership with the Tell Village Council, the Tell Charitable Association, the Tell Sports Club, the Women's Center in Tell, in addition to the Fatah movement in Tell.
These activities were not merely recreational games; rather, they were employed as tools for psychological release and emotional expression. In the balloon corner, children were able to release energy and emotions through playing with balloons, while the face-painting corner gave them space to express joy and rediscover feelings of delight and fun.
As for painting on paper rolls, it created an open space for children to express what was going on inside them by transforming thoughts and feelings into drawings and colors, allowing the child to express themselves in a nonverbal and safe way, especially when it is difficult for them to describe their feelings in words.
The umbrella activity also gave children the opportunity for group play, movement, and interaction by lifting balls and moving them using the umbrella, in an activity that combines fun, cooperation, and emotional release. Movement-based games, in turn, created space for releasing energy through running, play, and physical activity.
This type of activity is particularly important in the circumstances children are living through, as ongoing pressures may leave psychological effects that do not always appear directly. These may take the form of fear, tension, irritability, withdrawal, or sleep and behavior disturbances. Therefore, providing a safe space for play, expression, and interaction can be an important step in helping the child regain a sense of safety and the ability to express themselves.
