The development work on the areas surrounding Sheikh Mohammed Taffaha School has been completed as part of an environmental initiative aimed at transforming the school’s outer area into an integrated green space. The final phase included planting 24 new “Jacaranda” trees, following weeks of previous afforestation work with cypress trees, so that the entire perimeter of the school is now planted along the outer sidewalks.

Before implementing the project, the site was prepared by cleaning the area, removing obstacles, and preparing the soil in line with the needs of the new trees, which helps provide suitable conditions for their long-term growth. The types of trees were also carefully selected to provide a natural barrier that gives the school more privacy and shade, in addition to adding a special aesthetic touch during flowering seasons.

The activity saw the participation of 25 male and female volunteers from the Community Service course, who worked on rehabilitating the land and transporting agricultural soil, up to planting the saplings, arranging the area, and cleaning the surrounding street, in an atmosphere that reflected the spirit of cooperation and community work.

To enhance the chances of the project’s success, protective mesh was installed around the new trees to prevent damage, in addition to establishing two modern irrigation systems: the first relies on drip irrigation to preserve the trees and ensure continuous care, and the second uses a plastic pipe that reaches the roots of the saplings so the trees can be irrigated without wasting water.

This effort comes as part of a series of environmental activities the school has witnessed in recent periods, as previously unused spaces were rehabilitated and converted into areas suitable for cultivation, in addition to planting 97 forest and fruit trees inside the school and in its surrounding area.

The initiative aims to enhance environmental awareness among students and youth, and to encourage them to participate in agricultural activities and work Voluntary, which reinforces the concepts of environmental preservation and increasing green spaces, within the framework of efforts led by An-Najah National University through the Community Service Center in support of sustainable development and serving the local community.
