The Housing Rehabilitation Program continues its successes in rehabilitating impoverished homes in the villages of Nablus Governorate through a grant provided by the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID).
With funding from the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, the program, in partnership with local entities, built an additional room for the family of (N.M.) in the town of Beit Furik. She is a widowed woman supporting her only daughter, who is studying at university. The family had been living in a modest house consisting of only one room, in addition to kitchen and bathroom facilities located outside the house, which were in very poor condition.
In the second phase, the program supervised the reconstruction of the facilities to make them suitable from a health perspective, with generous funding from a well known philanthropist in the town and partial support from the Al Khair Charity Forum Fund at the CSC.
Program coordinator Eng. Osama Bani Odeh emphasized the importance of community participation in housing rehabilitation projects for impoverished families and its role in motivating the local community to actively support marginalized families. He expressed his thanks to everyone who contributed to and participated in the rehabilitation of this family’s home.
Mr. Bilal Salameh, Director of the Community Service and Continuing Education Center, also noted that the CSC continues to support marginalized groups in society on all levels, including rehabilitating family homes as a basic human right that must be upheld.
The Community Service and Continuing Education Center at An Najah National University continues its mission of giving through its various programs targeting marginalized groups and underprivileged families in Nablus and the surrounding residential areas. The Housing Rehabilitation Program, one of the CSC’s main programs, has continued its intervention and rehabilitation efforts to improve the health and social conditions of these families.
Over the past period, the program has completed numerous projects with local funding from donors who support the CSC’s mission, in addition to proceeds from the “Goodness Card” initiative, which university students and faculty members purchase to support the CSC’s various programs. This work was carried out through partnerships and cooperation with several local organizations.
A number of success stories have been documented, most notably the case of (A.A.) in the town of Beita. She is a woman supporting a family of six who had been living in a rented one room house with basic amenities. Through the generosity of town residents and several local organizations, a new house was built and fully finished for the family. The CSC contributed by carrying out the exterior and interior plastering work.
Another notable case was that of (Q.S.) in the city of Nablus. This poor family of six lived in a house lacking basic sanitation and consisting of a single room with its facilities. Thanks to the generosity of local benefactors and in partnership with the CSC, an inherited apartment was rehabilitated, enabling the family to move into a more spacious and hygienic home.
In addition, the CSC provided engineering consultations and follow up for intervention projects in several other cases, including the case of (S.K.) in the village of Nisf Jbeil. This family, headed by a woman, consisted of three members living in an old and modest house suffering from water leaks, damaged electrical wiring, and a room without tiling. The CSC provided engineering supervision for the intervention, which was generously funded by the Dar Al Ataa Charitable Society. The work included upgrading the electrical wiring, tiling the children’s room, installing exterior iron doors, and constructing a sloped roof.
Eng. Osama Bani Odeh expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to and participated in these cases, whether through material or moral support, especially the students of the Community Service course who support the CSC by promoting the “Goodness Card” initiative to fund its activities, particularly the housing rehabilitation program for impoverished families, which aims to improve living and health conditions by rehabilitating homes.
Mr. Bilal Salameh, Director of the Community Service and Continuing Education Center, praised the efforts of the CSC staff and volunteers, as well as the generous donors who supported the funding of these interventions. He stressed that adequate and healthy housing is a fundamental right of every citizen and called on official and non governmental organizations to extend a helping hand in improving the housing conditions of struggling families. He also affirmed that the CSC welcomes cooperation with all interested parties to benefit from its accumulated expertise in this field.
