The engineering and community teams of the Housing Rehabilitation Program at the Community Service Center are currently preparing the necessary studies to resume work on the project to improve the health environment in girls’ schools across villages in the southeastern Nablus Governorate. The project will proceed once funding for the next phase becomes available.

This initiative aims to address the urgent needs of many girls’ schools by protecting students from diseases caused by unsanitary conditions in toilets and drinking water.

The Community Service Center at An-Najah National University hopes to continue its work in this area, alongside its ongoing efforts to improve the living conditions of low-income families. This follows the success of the previous phase of the project, which benefited several schools.

Engineer Ola Al-Shakhshir, Coordinator of the Housing Rehabilitation Program at the Community Service Center, explained that the earlier phase was implemented in cooperation with the Palestinian Community Solutions Team at the ARD Foundation and the office of MP Dalal Salama, with funding from the British Consulate General in Jerusalem. The goal was to improve the health environment in six schools: Majdal Bani Fadel Secondary School for Girls, Aqraba Secondary School for Girls, Aqraba Elementary School for Girls, Hawara Elementary School for Girls, Aqab Mufdi Secondary School for Girls, and Odla Elementary School for Boys and Girls.

This type of project aims to enhance health conditions and service standards in schools by constructing new sanitation units, creating irrigation channels that utilize surplus water for agricultural purposes, renovating existing facilities, and building ramps for students with special needs. The project also contributes to creating job opportunities for both skilled and unskilled workers.
