The Housing Rehabilitation Program, one of the programs under the CSC at An-Najah National University, has completed the “Housing Rehabilitation for Needy Families in the Nablus Governorate” project. The project was funded by a grant from the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and financed by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.

This socio-engineering project included the following components:

First: Intervention in 60 cases monitored by the program, including the rehabilitation of five schools to make them accessible for students with special needs. The remaining cases involved poor families comprising more than 315 individuals, distributed as follows: • 13 families headed by women

• 11 cases involving people with special needs

• 7 cases involving elderly individuals

• 24 poor families

Second: Completion of 20 recreational activities and trips for children from target groups in various communities across the Nablus Governorate, in cooperation with the community education support program implemented by the CSC. These activities benefited more than 525 students.

Third: Organization of 10 training courses covering topics such as public safety, civil defense, first aid, and nutrition for volunteers involved in community initiatives in the project’s target areas.

Program Coordinator Osama Bani Odeh noted that most of the families supported by the program are listed with the Directorate of Social Affairs. The program worked to rehabilitate these homes in partnership with local community members and relevant institutions. He added that the project team, which included engineer Walaa Kilani and social researchers Rana Awad and Bahij Nassar, formed an integrated unit throughout the 24-month project. Together, they carried out tasks such as selecting and prioritizing cases, seeking additional funding sources, preparing technical and social reports, following up with beneficiaries, and determining appropriate interventions. The team worked closely with families to ensure their material and social needs were addressed through active participation.

In addition to this project, the CSC continued to rehabilitate several individual cases in Nablus and other areas, funded by the Multaqa Al-Khair Committee Fund and donations from generous community members. The aim was to improve living conditions, create healthier homes for poor families, and raise public awareness about the right to adequate housing.

Mr. Bilal Salama, Director of the CSC, stated that this project has allowed the center to expand its services in the field of housing rehabilitation for needy families. He emphasized that the CSC

will continue to pursue this vital work, even if at a slower pace, guided by its belief that healthy housing is a human right that must be achieved for all.

Mr. Salama expressed his gratitude to the project staff for their dedicated efforts and creative interventions, and to the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development for its generous support.
