The Community Service Center provided school bags and stationery to 50 boys and girls from the Old City of Nablus, most of whom live in difficult economic and social conditions and belong to families suffering from poverty and facing increasing living burdens.

The initiative came in cooperation with the Popular Committee in the Old City, which will take on the distribution of the bags and stationery to the benefiting children, as part of the center’s keenness to support less able families, respond to their needs, and strengthen the university’s presence in its surroundings through its social and humanitarian responsibility.

Although a school bag and its supplies may at first seem like simple items of limited value, for a family experiencing hardship they may represent an additional burden that is difficult to afford, especially under difficult economic conditions.

As for the child, the school bag is not merely a means of carrying his books and supplies; it is part of his joy at the start of the school year, gives him a sense of care and inclusion, and helps him go to school carrying what his peers carry of bags and stationery, without feeling that the economic conditions his family is living through make him different from his classmates, or deprive him of the simplest details of his childhood.

This initiative gains special importance in the Old City of Nablus, where many families live in modest homes and old houses, and despite the hardship of the circumstances, continue to cling to staying and remaining steadfast in the city and preserving their presence there. Hence, helping children and providing their school needs represents support for both the family and the child, and a partial easing of the burden on parents who face harsh economic and living challenges.
