The Community Service Center implemented the installation of drip irrigation systems in a number of schools in the city of Nablus, with the aim of protecting the planted trees, ensuring their continued growth, and preserving them, especially during periods of drought and high temperatures. This step reflects the Center’s commitment to ensuring the continuous flow of water to the saplings it planted as part of the afforestation initiative.
This project stems from the Center’s vision, which is not limited to planting trees only, but extends to providing the conditions necessary for their continuity and achieving the highest success rates in their growth, considering that caring for trees after planting constitutes the main pillar for the success of any afforestation project and for achieving its environmental and societal impact.
The project included the implementation of two practical models of drip irrigation systems in two schools in the city of Nablus, where a modern irrigation network was installed in Ibn Sina Basic School for Girls to irrigate 39 olive trees previously planted by the Center, while a similar network was installed in Sheikh Muhammad Tuffaha Secondary School for Girls to provide regular irrigation for 82 trees, including 58 olive trees and 24 jacaranda trees.
Drip irrigation is considered one of the most efficient and sustainable irrigation methods, as it relies on delivering water directly to the roots of trees in carefully measured and regular quantities through a network of pipes and drippers. This reduces water loss caused by evaporation or surface runoff, increases the efficiency of water resource use, and ensures that each tree receives its actual water needs, thereby enhancing its growth and increasing its ability to withstand various climatic conditions. This system also contributes to reducing maintenance and irrigation costs, limiting the growth of weeds, and improving soil health, in addition to increasing the survival rates of planted trees, which makes it an ideal option to support afforestation projects, especially in light of the challenges related to water scarcity and climate change.
The center affirmed that investing in sustainable irrigation systems represents a natural extension of afforestation campaigns and reflects its keenness to ensure the continuity of trees and to maximize their environmental and educational impact within schools, in a way that contributes to spreading environmental awareness among students and enhancing green spaces in educational institutions.
It is worth noting that the Community Service Center at An-Najah National University continued to implement its afforestation campaign across the governorates of the country, where the total number of trees it has planted since the launch of the initiative until the end of the winter of 2026 reached about 2,338 fruit and forest trees, as part of its ongoing efforts to support plant cover, enhance environmental sustainability, and entrench the culture of volunteer work and community service.
