The Community Service Center at An-Najah National University has launched its digital presence by opening TikTok and YouTube channels, as part of its efforts to convey its social mission, initiatives, and activities to a wider audience, especially young people and university students, and to turn fieldwork stories into visual content that documents their impact and brings them closer to people. This step reflects its orientation toward expanding channels of communication with the community and enhancing the presence of volunteer work in the digital space.
Through its new presence on the two channels, the center seeks to make digital platforms a window through which the public can see what is happening in the field, not only through photos and traditional coverage, but also through stories, experiences, and scenes that show how a volunteer idea or a simple initiative can turn into a tangible impact on the lives of individuals and the community.
Through its TikTok channel, the center offers short and direct content that keeps pace with the nature of the platform and the speed with which young people interact with it, while the YouTube channel provides a wider space for long-form visual content, allowing for more detailed documentation of initiatives and activities, in addition to building a visual archive that preserves part of the center’s experience and journey in serving the community.
Among the most prominent topics documented by the content are environmental work and the tree‑planting campaigns adopted by An-Najah National University, which have witnessed students’ participation in planting trees in a number of schools, institutions, and homes, including the homes of poor families, in addition to documenting students’ individual achievements in planting trees and caring for green spaces around their homes.
The content also highlights the beautification and environmental improvement campaigns carried out by the center, which include cleaning streets, sidewalks, and medians, planting green areas, and painting curbs and pedestrian crossings, in an effort to promote a culture of preserving public spaces and to turn volunteer work into a daily practice whose impact society can feel in the details of its life.
The documentation does not stop at the environmental aspect, as the center, through its digital content, also presents a dimension of its activities directed toward the elderly and persons with disabilities, in addition to humanitarian interventions for poor families, including housing rehabilitation projects and reconditioning homes to provide an environment that is healthier, safer, and more suitable for residents.
The content also covers a number of programs and activities that target children, including psychosocial support activities, as well as educational and health initiatives implemented by the center in cooperation with students, volunteers, and partners, reflecting the wide range of areas through which the university and its students can engage with the needs of the community.
This digital presence carries a dimension that goes beyond the idea of media coverage, as documenting volunteer work gives initiatives a life that extends beyond the moment of their implementation, allows people to learn about the efforts made in the field, and opens the way for students and young people to discover new spaces for participation, volunteering, and community service.
From here, the Community Service Center seeks to use TikTok and YouTube as spaces for documentation, awareness, and communication, and to make digital content a bridge connecting what happens in the field with the audience that may not have the opportunity to see these initiatives directly.
With this presence, the Community Service Center at An-Najah National University continues to expand its role in serving the community, combining fieldwork, digital documentation, awareness, and volunteering, and offering a new window for the public to learn about its programs and initiatives and to see part of the impact that students and volunteers create in the local community. This approach does not come as a shift from the field to the digital world, but rather as an extension of the work that the Center has carried out on the ground since its establishment in 1999, where its programs have been linked to the needs of the local community, and it has relied, in implementing a large part of its initiatives, on the capacities of university students, volunteers, and members of the community in various humanitarian, educational, social, and environmental fields.
