In its desire to contribute effectively to sustainable development, enhance community service, and instill volunteer values among students, An-Najah National University's Community Service Center supervises the Community Service & Sustainability Course, which is mandatory for all students. The course is conducted in collaboration with the university’s faculties and relevant community organizations to turn this service into a meaningful experience that benefits both the institution and the volunteer. It deepens the practical knowledge that students gain throughout their academic studies and provides them with the opportunity to train and contribute in various service sectors.

This course serves as a valuable human resource that contributes to the programs of beneficiary institutions and helps them expand their relationships with local communities. It also actively engages students in achieving the goals of sustainable development by involving them in voluntary efforts aimed at improving the local environment, promoting social justice, and enhancing community infrastructure.

The modern perspective on community service and volunteer work has shifted from a seasonal contribution of time and effort to an organized process that plays a critical role in social work and the management of community organizations. Volunteer management has thus emerged as an important field within the social sciences, focusing on the effective organization and utilization of human resources.

In line with this, the center organizes training courses for community organization workers on volunteer management to enhance their ability to efficiently manage available human resources. Additionally, the center holds study days to explore the current state of volunteer work in Palestinian society and its future development prospects.

To raise awareness about the importance of community service and sustainable development among students, especially those enrolled in the Community Service Course, the center organizes training workshops at the beginning of each semester. These workshops motivate students to engage in volunteer work, explain its significance, and then distribute them to various institutions, associations, and university departments. Each semester around 1,500 students participate in the program, volunteering for 32 hours over the course of the semester.

The nature of the community service performed by students is aligned with their skills and experiences. Some students engage in ongoing programs, such as supplementary education, assisting the elderly, or supporting children with special needs. Others volunteer at institutions that require electronic and language skills, which helps them develop their personal capacities, refine their skills, and strengthen their sense of belonging to the community.

This program not only helps students grow individually but also plays a vital role in cultivating a generation committed to applying the principles of sustainable development.
