The Community Service Center, the College of Nursing, and the women of the “Multaqa Al-Khair” Committee organized a social gathering for the elderly enrolled in the center’s “Working with the Elderly” program, graciously hosted by the Al-Thuraya Center for Persons with Disabilities, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development.
The activity began with a health awareness workshop presented by Dr. Mahdiya Al-Koni from the College of Nursing, during which the college students carried out health examinations for the elderly, including measuring blood sugar and blood pressure levels, to educate them about the details and importance of these periodic tests for monitoring their health needs.
The gathering hosted about fifty elderly men and women, grandfathers and grandmothers, in a space that combined health care with human communication, offering them the opportunity to meet, interact, and move out of the routine of daily life into an atmosphere of care, inclusion, and a sense of appreciation.
The meeting was not limited to the health aspect, as presence and direct communication formed another part of the activity, given that such gatherings provide room for social interaction, conversation, and the revival of feelings of closeness and belonging—elements that help enhance the psychological well-being of the elderly and give them a sense of being present and engaged with their social environment.
At the end of the gathering, the elderly sat together around lunch and desserts in a family atmosphere that reflected the spirit of sharing and giving, and the event concluded with simple human memories that hold great value for senior citizens.
