The Community Service Center and the YMCA have completed the rehabilitation of the headquarters of the Palestinian General Union of Persons with Disabilities in the city of Nablus. The rehabilitation work included upgrading the sanitary facilities inside the headquarters, after an urgent need emerged to re-equip them in line with universal accessibility standards and the use of persons with disabilities. The work included addressing problems in the plumbing installations and installing and equipping the basic facilities, including the toilet seat, sink, and supportive fittings, in a way that ensures ease of use and enhances the beneficiaries’ independence.

The project was implemented through a division of roles between the two partners, whereby the YMCA provided the materials needed for the rehabilitation work, while the Community Service Center covered the labor costs, which contributed to completing the project in accordance with the actual needs of the headquarters. This took place within the framework of a community partnership with the YMCA, with the aim of improving the environment of the headquarters and enhancing its readiness to provide more suitable services for persons with disabilities.

This project comes in response to the needs of the Palestinian General Union of Persons with Disabilities, and stems from An-Najah National University’s commitment, represented by the Community Service Center, to its role in serving the community and enhancing partnerships with national institutions, especially those facing financial and economic challenges that affect their ability to develop their services.

The Union is considered one of the national institutions that provides services to a wide segment of persons with disabilities, despite its limited financial resources and reliance on restricted revenues, which makes such initiatives an important source for the continuity of its humanitarian and societal mission.

The Community Service Center affirmed that this project embodies the social responsibility of An-Najah National University and reflects its commitment to supporting the most vulnerable groups, and to strengthening cooperation with civil society institutions, in a way that contributes to improving the quality of services provided to persons with disabilities, and consolidates the principles of sustainable development, particularly in the areas of poverty reduction, promotion of good health, and achieving effective partnership in serving the community.
