A volunteer agricultural day was held at the Portuguese Basic School for Girls in the town of Beit Furik, reflecting a commitment to environmental and civic responsibility. The event was organized by the Community Service Center in partnership with the Directorate of Education in Nablus as part of the center’s ongoing agricultural and environmental campaign.
The day saw active participation from the school’s female students, who began with a cleanup of the school’s back garden. Students removed waste and helped improve the overall environment, sending a clear message about the importance of maintaining the school grounds and embracing social responsibility.
The activity began with an awareness session focusing on public hygiene and environmental protection. Students learned about the connection between agriculture and national identity, while the olive tree was highlighted as a symbol of resilience, belonging, and both religious and national significance in Palestinian culture.
The volunteer day concluded with the planting of nine olive trees in the school garden. This action served both a practical and symbolic purpose, expanding green spaces, promoting environmental values, and encouraging a culture of volunteerism and student initiative.
This initiative is part of a broader strategic effort to support environmental sustainability, particularly in schools and underserved areas. The campaign will continue to extend to public facilities and government institutions that lack green spaces, reinforcing the role of collective action in protecting the land and raising environmental awareness for future generations.
