The Community Service Center and the College of Nursing at An-Najah National University, in cooperation with Qabalan Municipality and the South Nablus Education Directorate, organized an awareness medical day dedicated to the elderly in the town of Qabalan, south of Nablus. The activity reflected an effective model of institutional and community partnership aimed at enhancing health awareness and improving the quality of life for elderly citizens.

Approximately 36 elderly men and women participated in the event, which was held at the Qabalan Hut Hall in a lively and supportive health-focused atmosphere. The program combined health education with psychological and social support, contributing to bringing joy and positive engagement to the participants.

During the event, Dr. Mahdiya Al-Koni delivered a specialized awareness lecture addressing osteoporosis and the principles of healthy nutrition. She emphasized the importance of regular walking and daily physical activity, reducing sugar consumption, and the vital role of dairy products in strengthening bone health and preventing age-related diseases. She also discussed several common health issues among the elderly, including urinary incontinence, diabetes, and high blood pressure, providing practical guidance and simple exercises to help alleviate symptoms and improve lifestyle habits.

On the practical side, students from the College of Nursing, along with volunteers, conducted medical examinations for participants, including blood pressure and blood sugar measurements. This step highlighted the integration between academic learning and practical application, while strengthening direct communication with the elderly and addressing their health needs.

The Mayor of Qabalan, Mr. Riyad Al-Oula, praised the efforts of the organizing bodies and expressed his appreciation to the participants and elderly attendees. He called for the continuation of such initiatives, which play an important role in strengthening community partnerships and promoting a culture of care for elderly health.

In turn, the elderly participants expressed their deep appreciation for the initiative, noting that it brought joy to their hearts, made them feel cared for and valued, and provided them with valuable medical information that contributes to improving their health and overall lifestyle.

The Community Service Center at An-Najah National University continues to fulfill its social responsibility by implementing health awareness programs and initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those aimed at ensuring good health and well-being and promoting a decent life for all segments of society.
