The CSC at An-Najah National University, through the Open Door Program, provided financial support totaling 379,646 shekels in the form of non-repayable grants and student loans, benefiting hundreds of students during 2024. This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to its national and humanitarian mission, guaranteeing the right to education and enhancing student resilience amid difficult economic conditions.
The CSC reported that 145 male and female students received non-repayable grants totaling 135,131 shekels, while 223 students benefited from interest-free facilitated loans amounting to 244,515 shekels, enabling them to continue their university studies without additional financial burdens.
This support aligns with the CSC’s dedication to promoting equal educational opportunities, a fundamental pillar of sustainable development, particularly the goal of providing inclusive and equitable education for all. The initiative is especially significant in light of the escalating economic challenges imposed by current circumstances.
The grants targeted students from families experiencing difficult or emergency economic conditions, including orphans, persons with disabilities, cases registered with social affairs, and poor families whose living conditions prevented them from covering university fees. The loans were allocated to students whose family income sources were temporarily disrupted due to the impacts of war, such as salary suspensions or job losses, with repayment allowed later under facilitated conditions.
The CSC highlighted that the ongoing war has had profound economic and social effects, including interrupted salaries, halted work for individuals in the occupied territories, reduced economic activity, and movement restrictions due to military checkpoints, all of which directly affected families’ ability to support their university-going children.
The Open Door Program remains one of the most prominent direct intervention tools employed by the CSC, providing urgent financial support to help protect students from the risk of dropping out and ensuring the continuity of their academic journey despite the challenges.
