The Community Service Center at An-Najah National University has launched a distinctive initiative to recycle used clothing that is still suitable for wear, with the aim of supporting dignified and needy families and promoting the values of social solidarity and environmental sustainability.
This initiative came as the result of extensive cooperation between benefactors, well-off families, donors, and the Good Gathering Committee, through which large quantities of new and nearly new clothing were collected. The clothing then underwent careful sorting and preparation, in order to redistribute it to families benefiting from the center’s programs and services.
The center allocated a suitable location at its branch on Sufian Street in the heart of Nablus to display and distribute the clothing in an organized and easily accessible environment. Clothing is displayed on designated shelves according to age group and gender, including clothing for children, women, and men.
A special area was also prepared for trying on clothing, allowing beneficiaries to choose what suits them with full privacy and comfort, in an experience that simulates shopping in a specialized clothing store, away from traditional methods of providing aid.
The center affirmed that this humanitarian model seeks to entrench the concept of assistance based on respect and empowerment, ensuring that the needs of needy families are met while preserving their feelings and dignity. It reflects An-Najah National University’s mission in serving the community and promoting the values of giving and human solidarity.
This initiative falls within a series of community programs adopted by the Community Service Center, stemming from An-Najah National University’s vision aimed at enabling society to serve itself, and translating the Sustainable Development Goals into practical projects that contribute to reducing poverty and enhancing social cohesion..
