The urgent need to support elderly individuals living alone has become increasingly apparent due to various family circumstances. Some have become widowers or widows, others have no children, some never married, or have lost family members, leaving them without close support. Elderly individuals who receive family and community care enjoy happier and more stable lives, making it a humanitarian and social duty to provide them with an environment that respects their dignity and values their contributions.
The Community Service Center pays special attention to this group, providing care for fifty-five elderly men and women living alone. The center monitors their conditions and works to meet as many of their personal and daily needs as possible. Some require home rehabilitation, others need heating during winter, financial assistance for daily expenses, medications, sanitary supplies, or medical examinations.
The center’s role extends beyond material support; it also promotes social integration through regular meetings and organized activities. Over the past years, more than one hundred social gatherings have brought together elderly individuals living alone with seniors residing in nursing homes. These events create an interactive environment that helps break isolation and strengthen human bonds. Participants have opportunities to converse, share meals, and enjoy a warm, family-like atmosphere, making these gatherings highly anticipated and joyful experiences.
The center has been running this program for more than twenty years, offering a model for serving and caring for the elderly financially, morally, and socially. This long-standing commitment reflects its ongoing dedication to this cherished segment of society.
The Community Service Center emphasizes that caring for the elderly is not only a social responsibility but also a measure of a society’s progress and humanity. It embodies the principles of equality and the right to live with dignity in conditions that reflect their contributions and stage of life. This work aligns with the university’s vision to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by supporting community groups and enhancing the quality of life for the elderly as an essential part of its social responsibility.
