The Housing Reform program aims to improve living conditions and provide healthy and safe community environments for individuals or families in need of shelter as well as support low-income, elderly or homeless populations through the rehabilitation and renovation of houses and communities.
It seeks to assure that low-income homeowners- particularly the elderly, disabled and families with children—live in warmth, safety and independence. The unit team also seeks to develop local initiatives within the communities in which they already work to expand the impact and reach of the Housing Program.
Program Goals
The program aims to:
- Improve living conditions and provide healthy and safe community environments for individuals or families in need of shelter
- Encourage homeowners to modify or repair their houses.
- Motivate people to find their own career path.
- Affirm the right to adequate housing and shelter.
- Offer people counselling services and help them repair their houses.
Program Accomplishments
In partnership with local and international parties and authorities, the program accomplishments have immediate and dramatic positive effects on several Palestinian families. The program directly contributes to such long-term outcomes as:
- 22 low income families in Nablus have built and developed their houses through partnership with local and international parties for social services in implementing the housing project.
- The program offered consulting engineering services for three residential buildings with technical problems, and three poor cases from the East Jerusalem YMCA.
